Why do I always end up writing this stuff late at night?

Here's another old poem revisited. I won't post the first draft here as it wasn't very well done. Except for form, the final piece is quite different from the original, which was an attempt to portray two voices speaking (or singing) in counterpoint.

It was primarily inspired by one of Narumi Kakinouchi's paintings of Miyu and Larva, characters from her manga Vampire Princess Miyu. Though, the context of the poem itself was not intended to bear any similarities to the world in the manga or the anime. It was simply words put to what I found to be a captivating picture.

My apologies for the low quality image. It's a very old file, and I haven't found a better source. This might have been scanned from an artbook, as I do not recognize it from any of the anime episodes or manga publications.

Childlike Voices (revised 11 15 2009)

In dreams we dance, a pair of lovers enchained.
Our shadows swirl with the mists of time,
like faces fading in and out of the pouring rain.

I am the silence of your thoughts.
I am the echo of your voice.
We are the whisper of the morning sun.
We are the wail of a somber moon.

In dreams we dance through glaring skies.
The sway of our song bends the universe to our will,
while wingless angels watch with jealous eyes.

I am the glory from your future.
I am the sorrow from your past.
We revel in the joys we harvest.
We agonize in the chaos we reap.

In dreams we dance, the seasons pass.
Time marks our cadence with ribbons and tombstones
as our graceful steps draw a tangled path.

I am the gleam in your scheming smile.
I am the tear upon your trembling cheek.
We cheer as we celebrate life.
We weep as we bury the dead.

In dreams we dance, spurring creation's ire.
We give birth to new, unfettered worlds,
as the old are swallowed by waves of earth and fire.

I am the light in your heart.
I am the darkness in your mind.
We are linked as one.
We are bound to none.
